Shaun had some unrelated software problems so he wasn’t able to do the paperwork requested by Real. Those problems seem to be fixed and he expects to get some time to do the paperwork “soon”. Real is looking forward to this as the FreeBSD build is much better now.

Native RealPlayer progress
Shaun submitted some patches to the people at Real. It already got a test run on the build system. Reports are, that it looks very good. But it seems Shaun has to fill out some (electronic) paper work before they can accept the patch officially. I don’t know more.
Hint: using sockets across jails
I want to use a socket (mysql) in multiple jails. Using nullfs to mount it in each jail where you want to use it does not work (bug in nullfs?). Using a hardlink (if the jails reside on the same FS) works. I hope this info safes a little bit of time in case someone tries to do the same.
The hostname MySQL sees in such a connection is “localhost”. Maybe this is obvious to one or another, but because jails don’t have a 127.0.0.1 it was not obvious to me.
Short status: RealPlayer, Sound, Linux, …
I’m busy with non-FreeBSD related stuff since a while, so there’s not much to say.
RealPlayer: Shaun, the FreeBSD maintainer of the helixplayer port, promised to polish up a patchset when he gets time to port helixplayer to a more recent version and send it to the corresponding helix community (requested by some people at Real after showing them the patches via cvsweb). Their review and integration of this stuff will help in getting a RealPlayer binary from Real.
Sound: The work of Ariff (and every other contributor) in the HDA area seems to be very appreciated. There are aven voices asking for a MFC. I don’t think we will get it for 6.2. It’s too late in the release process and Ariff seems to be busy.
Sound2: Ryan committed a fix to P4 which should provide some missing stuff to some breaking ports. If someone has time to commit it…
Linux: A lot of progress happened here. The longstanding major bug on amd64 is fixed and MFCed (thanks to kib!), so we finally got some results for the amd64 runs of the LTP testcases (now color coded to spot problems much faster). The status of the stable run is already on the wiki page (but this is without the MFC). Runs on current (2.4.2 and 2.6.16 based emulation) and stable after the MFC where already done, but I didn’t got time to wiki-fy their status yet.
Ports: I already have an update for my sylpheed-claws port to 2.6.0 together with a move to LOCALBASE (including the plugin ports) available, but I have to wait until the ports-slush is lifted.
Native RealPlayer for FreeBSD
Some days ago I got approval from Real, I’m allowed to blog about the native FreeBSD RealPlayer. Now I get time to blog about it.
Ok, there’s not much to say about it so far. Some people in the FreeBSD community (among them 2 committers, guess who is one of them…) are helping Real to get it up and running on FreeBSD. The FreeBSD build machine is setup and some build logs are already generated. Some minor problems where identified (missing software which can be installed out of the ports, some minor issues in the build system and some other easy to fix stuff I don’t remember ATM) in a first round of log-review.
This reminds me that I should have a look if there are some new logs. Maybe I get time at the weekend. Let’s hope I don’t forget about it… 😉
